Pontiac Repair: 2001 pontiac grand am, intake manifold gasket, head gasket


Question
The car was over heating, had a shop replace intake  manifold gasket and thermostat. Car ran 2 days then started over heating and shutting down. Parked car for 2 weeks then tryed cranking would turn over but not crank up
Pulled plugs cleaned car finally started ran 5 min now just hear starter click or nothing.

well it sounds like the manifold gasket didn't fix it more then likley the root of all the evil here was the intake manifold hgasket was leaking for a while and you continued to drive the car and overheated it. those head cycles more then likely cause a head gasket to fail or worse crack a cylinder head. Then again it started to over heat and same thing. If the coolant was getting into the crank case and mixed with the engine oil it will cause engine bearing failure and possably a engine to seize up. Or a head gasket faild so severly that a cylinder filled up with coolant and the engine will not turn over due to coolant in one or more of the cylinders. what ever the failure it it's not a good thing. the engine is going to have to come apart again to find out what broke. good luck :)
