Pontiac Repair: 96 Pontiac Grand Am, 2.4 Twin Cam Starting and Immediate stopping, pontiac grand am, cat converter

Question
I have a 96 Pontiac Grand am, 2.4 Litre Twin Cam. It starts then stalls immeditely. I replaced the fuel pump, coils, spark plugs, map sensor(Which is what came up on a comp. check) Disconnected the Cat Converter, and checked the Security system to make sure it wasn't activated. Nothing has worked. Upon initial startup, the car will start and then shut off. If I leave the key in the on position, Then try to restart the car, It will only turn over...No start, but If I turn the key off then try to start the engine, It will start up again then shut off.

Answer
Hey Scott:

This has a security system issue I'm willing to bet when it starts and stalls the security lamp is on and flashing. if that is the case the likely cause is the lock cylinder housing is bad. there is a sensor in the housing and it goes bad. if you replace it you will have to relearn that new sensor to the secuity module. Tryto start the car let it start and stall and leave the key on untill the securityy lamp either stops flashiong or goes out. then turn the key off wait 1 minute and then start it up and it should run. good luck :)
