Pontiac Repair: 2009 G6 3.5l V6 Oil Pan Removal, bell housing, oil pan

Question
Is it possible to remove the oil pan without removing the engine from the car. I can see how I might need to unbolt the motor mounts so I can raise the engine a bit. Just curious a s to your thoughts on this.Thank you!

Answer
Hi Tommy:

yes you can and that is part of it you also have to lower the engine sub fram down wil supporting the engine. The real problme is the trnamission. I'll assume this has an automatic tranmission and in that case the engine and trnamsission have to be seperated by about 1 1/2" due to the boss on the bootom of the oil pan extends into the bell housing of the transmission. there is a metal plate the stiffens the attachment between the engine and trnasmission and if the to are bolted togeher you can's get the pan off. so you need to remove all by 2 trasnmssion to engine mounting bolts and the 2 remaining you need to back out enough to get space in between the 2 of them. This really is not a job for the do it your selfer.
