Pontiac Repair: waterpump, grand prix 3, idler pully

Question
Do I have to take the idler pully off the front of my 98 Grand Prix 3.8 in order to get the last bolt out of the water pump? If so How do I get the pully off?

Answer
Hi Phil:

the pulley on the waterpump is just held on by 4 bolts and sometimes they rust on to the pump flange. once the bolts are out use the hansle side of a hammer and tap on the pulley and it should pop off the pump hub. sometimes a bit of lubricat like wd40 or PB Blaster sprayed into the holes will creep in behind the pulley and it will come off easier. good luck :)
