Question
QUESTION: Hello!  I replaced my multi-function switch today due to my brake lights(only) not working.  Simple but not easy to get to.  Got it all apart, disconnected the 3 connectors and reconnected the 3 new ones.  Put it all back together and voila.... all my lights now work.  But now the car won't start.  Ugh.  It sounds like I'm trying to start the car with a copy of the key instead of the correct one with the chip or whatever it has in it.  It turns over but maybe something needs reset to allow it to run?  Maybe a security switch or something??  Any thoughts are appreciated.  Thank you!

ANSWER: Hi John:

That has pass key security system. makse sure you have all the connetors attached. disconnect the battery and touch the battery cable ends together to clear out any module memorys. reconnect the cables. go a google search for pass key re learn it's a long drawn out affair. make sure when yo udo the learn you use the key that you know works okay and make sure all the car accesories are off like the radio and the blower motor you don't want the battery to die while it's learning the security system. If that doesn't work then possably you may have damaged the pass key module when you dissassembled the coulmn. Good luck :)

QUESTION: Hi Todd, So I looked up the pass key system 're-learn' procedure.  I found 2 different ones.  Both however start off with turning the key to the 'on' position then waiting 10 minutes until the security light goes out.  Soooo... what does it mean if the security light never even comes on?  I does blink when I don't have keys insterted though.  (Also... I have checked EVERY fuse in each block - the one by the glove box and the one under the hood to be sure they are good.)

Any idea if there is a way to bypasss the security easily? The car is 10 years old, not worried about theft anyway.
Thanks!

Answer
That system you can not by pass. look at the key and see what is stamped on the key. either a (+) or PK3 that is the difference in the stsem and try the proceedure that matches the stamping on the key. If the lamp doesn't come on then it's possable the module it's self is bad.. With out seeing it I can't tell you for sure what the issue is.
