Pontiac Repair: Fuel Gauge, fuel gauge, ckt

Question
I have an 1984 Trans Am Fuel gauge quit working. I replaced the sending unit, and made sure it passes 0-90 ohms resistance. How do I test the gauge to be sure that isn't the problem?

Answer
Hi Robert:

well you checked the sender and that's fine. it's either an open ckt between the gauge and the sender or the gauge it's self. Does it read past full? if so chances are it's an open wire. you can pull the speedo/cluster out and check the level sensor wire to ground it shoulr read somewhere between 0-90 ohms depending on how much fule you have in the tank it it reads OL the ckt it open. if you have between 0-90 the guage is the issue. good luck :)
