QuestionQUESTION: One day my radio stoped working then it would come back on then it would stop then it would work same with windows and all the while the dinger(the one when the retained accessory power door opened a dinger would sound as radio shut down)would randomly sound off.that all stopped everthing seem ok next day no power windows no radio no dinger everything else workes fine. 1997 pontiac grand prix gtp.lease help!

Well it sounds lime you have an issue with the RAP Retained accessory power relay. Either the relay is bad ot the control to the relay is at fault. Is there anything else on the car that isn't working? How about the blower motor and the light on the dash for the PRNDLL? The body control module runs the RAP relay but if the Body control module is getting a bad input it will not control the RAP correctly. I have seen ignition switch go bad and cause this Type of a problem and I have also seen the power wires that run from under the hood back into the car go had in what is called a Pass thru. The wires corrode and cause all kinds of issues.. With out seeing this car I can't tell you for sure what the issue is. Good luck :)

ANSWER: well the BCM on this car is not a bi directinal module meaning that is doesn't have any kind of scan tool readings so all the input to the BCM and output to the BCM have to checked with either a test light or a volt meter. that are way to may to list. Your going to need a wiring diagram for that car from a repair manual and You will need to check for battery volatge,ground,switched ignition voltage all inputs to the BCM and the power and or ground out of the BCM to the RAP relay. the BCM is under the left side of the dash and the RAP relay is up behind the glove box on this car.

AnswerI would start by changing the flasher element. I belive that may be the first yar on that car that they used a solid stae flasher and not the old fashioned round tin flasher assm. If this is the one I'm thinking of they both run though the same flasher module. Start there.
