Pontiac Repair: 93 Grand Prix stalling, google search, throttle plate

Question
Have a 93 Grand prix with the 3.1 engine. When you come up to a stop or idle throught a parking lot the rpms will fluctuate and it will stall out. I haqve replaced the IAC and the problem improved but it is still doing after the engine gets warmed up.Any ideas??

Answer
Hi Andy:

those engines were prone for stalling conditons. Especially after a battery replacement or a dead battery. Do a google search for 3.1 Liter engine Idle learn It's a long drawn out proceedure to make the engine computer learn all the parameters for a proper engine idle. There are too many steps to list on here to do it but when you do it make sure the a/c is turned off and before you do that learn disconnect the battery and touch the cables together when they are oof the battery that will drain all the modules memory out. Also get a can or throttle body cleaner and clean the throttle body and throttle plate. If the IAC valve you got is not a Delco part you mayhave issues still after the learn, The taper on the of the valves is different for every engine and if you got a "fits all" you may syill have issues. Good luck :)
