my 1997 pontiac bonneville keeps on turning off while driving what should i do?

What happens when it dies. Does it stip sputter and cough before it dies doe does it just shut off like someone turned off the key? I matters on the way to look at what is going on. If it's like someone just surned off the key I would look at an ignition system issue like a bad crank shaft position sensor especially if it does it when the engine is good and hot and been running for a while. If it sputters it's an fuel system issue like possibly a fuel pump cutting out due to being over worked from a restricted fuel filter./ No one ever changes the filter un till it's to late and the pump is damaged. Those are my 2 initial thougfhs as to what the problem is. With out anymore info it's just a guess.
