Pontiac Repair: belt, pontiac grand prix gxp, grand prix gxp

i was driving my 2005 pontiac grand prix gxp, 5.3 v8, and suddenly it wa hard to steer, and the temp gauge went up quickly,a coolant failing system was displayed and turn off a/c was displayed. There is a large belt which looks like it should be around maybe 4 pulleys, but its hanging loose. it's on the passenger side of the car, what is this belt?

that belt is your drive belt or serpentine belt.  either one of two things happened, 1 the belt broke, or 2 the tensioner broke.  You need to find out if you can just reinstall the belt or if you need a new tensioner, if the tensioner broke chances are you broke a bolt in the front of the motor as well
