Pontiac Repair: ac low pressure port, service ports, older cars

Question
Aunt has an 88 Bonneville and I can't find the low pressure port to add refrigerant
Sorry I'm not sure what engine it has in it

Answer
Hey Donald:

Wow I haven't worked on one of this vintage Bonnies in years.... The lo side port should be on the accumulator up agaist the fire wall on the passenger side of the car. The accumulator is a large aluminum canister it has 1 pipe going into it and has 1 electrical switch on it and it should have the lo pressure service port. If not follow the large pipe going into it back towards the front of the car and the port would be by the battery. it's in either of those places. Like I said it has been yars since I worked on one of these.. are you retrofitting it to 134a? If so the correct way to retrofit one of these older cars you need to replace all the o-ringd on all the lines. A correct retrofit kit can be bought at a place like Carquest or NAPA it has all the new o-rings the new style service ports that screw onto the R-12 ports and a bottle of oil that is to be used with the 134A. good luck :)
