Pontiac Repair: battery cable on a grand am, ac delco, leak acid

Question
QUESTION: How do you replace the positive battery cable on a pontiac grand am?

ANSWER: Hi Jason:
It depends on the year and the engine. But the (+) cable goes from the battery to the starter motor and depending on the year and the engien that cab;e may split off to an underhood fuse box and or ro the alternator. That are a lot of different configurations from year to year. good luck :)

QUESTION: I have a year 1996 2.4L engine in a grand am se.

The positive cable goes down and up and looks like it attachs either to the starter or some other componet that I cannot see.

Answer
Hi jason it probably goes to the alternator as well at the starter on that year car. It's not a really bad job to do it's just a matter of gaining access to get to it. did the battery leak acid out and corrode the cable end? Get the factory replacment cable they are not all that expensive. The aftrmarkey ones do not fit the cars right and you wind up with issues then and they are uaually the wrong gauge wire as well. so save your self the hastle and get the correct one for the car at a GM dealer or an AC Delco auto parts store.
