Pontiac Repair: car will not start, may be the alarm system., haynes repair manual, pontiac firebird

Question
I have a 1997 Pontiac firebird trams am auto trans V8 350 (5.7L). I cannot start it. I think it maybe the delco II theftlock system. I have light and door alarm sounds, however, there is not dashlights and when I open the door the horn sounds and the lights flash. It sat for a few days and then started, but the very next day it would not start and the same systems came back. I do not have the remote door opener either, was lost over a year ago. The battery died, so I have put it on the maintenance charger. The lights still flash and the horn still sounds. Headlights go on, and the key/door alarm stills sounds as well. But still no dash lights and it will not start. I used
key to lock and unlock door(s) when the alarm is sounding at times this will stop the alarm and can not hear what I think is the rely clicking. The clicking happens when the alarm is (horn)
and lights are sounding and flashing. I have a Haynes repair manual but it dose not get into this area very well. I called the repair shop and he said he could not help and then I call GM, and they want 140.00 dollars to tell what the problem maybe? Maybe? So I came online in hopes of finding an answer here and try to say some money so that I can fix it. I am sure it is a relay of some type. But do not know where to look under hood or maybe dash, just don't know for sure. I hope you might help, if you need more info., just ask and I’ll do my best to get the answer . . . .  Thank you so very much for your time and very real consideration in my need for help with this problem.

Answer
Hey Tony:

do you know if this has some sort of an add on alarm system on top of the factory system? The fact that unlocking the door with the key should shut off the factory system. that's why I'm woundering why you still have an issue here. take a look under the dash on the drivers side and see if there is a rats nest full of wires all but connectored together and scoths locked to the factory wire harness at the abse of the steering column. If not try this turn the key on roll down the drivers window so the door don't lock your keys inside the car turn the key to run and disconnect the battery touch the battery terminals together for 5 minutes and then  reconnect the battery and see if the alarm goes off If so you may get luck and it start and run. If not your kind of stuck. Haynes manulas stink for any kind of in depth electrical diag. check our your local library for a MOTOR or Chilton manual those are better by far. with out seeing the car I have no way of telling you what the issue here is.. You may need to learn a new remot to this car in order for it to turn off the alarm. Going back to the aftermarket alarm if there is a rats nest under there remove it all. and make sure the yellor wire comming out of the base of the steering colum is reconnected any kind of aftermarket alarm they cut and splice the strter disconnect in right on that yelloe wire that is the "crank" wire to the starter motor. good luck :)
