Pontiac Repair: 2002 pontiac grand prix gt, pontiac grand prix, divice

Question
recently  my car was towed to a shop, their computer said my pass lock was bad and need to be replaced, to the tune of 400.00 dollars.  the dealership i bought the car from said there is a gps device installed to cut my car off if a payment is not made.  they have told me that they have not disalbled my car, and the divice would not give a pass lock code on the other shops computer.  the shop that charged my 75.00 for the coputer diag. said that the dealerships divice would cause that code.  I owe one more payment, the dealership i purchased the car from says i should bring it to them for a second opinion.  will the pass lock code appear if there is device on my car that would allow it to be shut off by the dealership?

Answer
Hi Paige:

Humm I'm stumped I have never heard of such a device added to a car for that purpose. Ther is something called lo jack that is a GPS tracking device abut I have been heard of one attached to a car for non payment of a bill. A repair shop can actually put a lean on your car is you owe payment At least in NY state they can. Once you sign a repair order that is consent to repair the car and you okayed the repair your bound by contract the repair order in the contract... That aside I guess it depends on the type of device added to the car If it's tied into the pass key system then Yes it could set a code and make the car not start. To me it seems a bit odd to goto that measure for such a small repair bill amount. It may just be a scare tatctic I don't know. I hope that helps you out some.. Good luck :)
