Question
QUESTION: 98 sunfire 2.2 the check engine light is on in the car. It's my girlfriends car an nysi is due in a month. The car surges when at steady cruise like 20 or 30mph.The codes are egr insufficent flow and camshaft position sensor low voltage i believe.Changed the cam sensor light came on immediately.Has new plugs ,fuel filter and sometimes hard starting also. Now she tells me every once in a while car sputters and sometimes stalls.Any ideas what to try nextI know egr for this car is expensive around 160.00

ANSWER: Hi Jason:

Did the cam sensor set again right away or is the light still on from the EGR valve. You cleared the trouble code did the cam sensor code come back. Egr valves were common on that engine in that year the pintel in the valve hanges up and will not close due to carbon build up in the valve.

Answer
do you live in a rust belt area part of the US Like north east? if so there was a reclall on this car that had to do with the engine control module and or the wiring going to the control module. You may have a corrosion issue with the pcm/harnes(S) going to the engine control module. call ANY Gm dealer and give them the VIN # and see if that recall has been done or not if it hasn't the repair is free that is assuming that there is a PCM or wiring issue anything other then that you have to pay for.. Did you use a AC Delco cam sensor in this or an aftermarket one. I'm not a fan of ANY aftermarket electrical parts you may have a bad senor and put in a fit's all and the issue is still there due to a poor quality part.
