Pontiac Repair: stupid grand am, fastener torque, pontiac grand am


Question
I hope you can help me, im so confused....I have a 2004 Grand Am SE, and on the left side of the instrument panel it looks like one of the lights has gone out because not the whole display is dim, only in one area of the left side. But my problem is trying to get the plastic piece off that covers the panel its self....ive removed the screws...tried to find any type of place ware a latch would be or something and for some reason i just cant get the stupid thing off....PLEASE help if you can! it would make a very happy person of me! thank you very much!

Instrument Cluster Replacement
Removal Procedure




•Remove the instrument panel (IP) cluster trim plate. Refer to Instrument Panel Cluster Trim Plate Bezel Replacement .
•For the Pontiac only, remove the 2 IP cluster screws.




•For the Oldsmobile only, remove the 4 IP cluster screws.
•Pull the IP cluster rearward. Disconnect the cluster lead.
•Remove the IP cluster.
Installation Procedure




•Connect the cluster lead to the IP cluster.
•Position the cluster into the cluster pocket.
Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

•For the Oldsmobile only, install the 4 IP cluster screws.
Tighten
Tighten the screws to 2 N·m (18 lb in).





•For the Pontiac only, install the 2 IP cluster screws.
Tighten
Tighten the screws to 2 N·m (18 lb in).

•Install the IP cluster trim plate. Refer to Instrument Panel Cluster Trim Plate Bezel Replacement .
