Pontiac Repair: climate control system, electronic climate control, climate control system

Question
I have a 1996 Pontiac Bonneville with electronic climate control system. I unhooked my battery to replace, and now the outside temp/current temp display is blinking and it seems to only push cold air with the heat on. It also blows hot air now with the system in the off mode? It sometimes in winter will stay on warm air if I shut off ignition and turn back on several times, thus the starter replacement as well. The blower motor was changed and wont shut off unless I unplug it from motor. Any idea what is wrong or should I change unit?

Answer
Hi craig:

those ealrier climate control systems are tough to figure out the fact that the temp is blinking means that ther is a code in the system and that is why it's acting odd. the fact that the battery was disconnected and reconnected may have cleared out a multitiude of codes ther were set. it sounds like you hav emultiple issues going on here wuith the unit. On some of those older ones the system would run in a default mode and if their are multiple codes in it now the unit is just in "stupid" mode and doesn't know what to do. al lot of the big box auto parts stores can scan for codes for free see what codes may be in the system and go from there. Some of those older systems were pretty complex to get codes of of them too. It's like pulling teeth. the newer systems are a breeze to figure out compaired to those older units. Good luck :)
