Pontiac Repair: my 2004 pontiac vibe, 2004 pontiac vibe, pontiac vibe

Question
QUESTION: i changed the spark plugs in my 04 vibe and now it won't crank over with the key i jumped the starter and it cranks but won't start. i called the dealer and they said it sounds like it is in lock out mode. i have a keyless entry system. how do i fix this problem or reset it so i can start my vehicle?

ANSWER: Hi Rob:

the vibe doesn't have any kind of Lock out mode. does it have any kind of an aftermarket alarm? if so that me be it. the factory system just flashes the lights and the horn blows. so it it will not crank ther is either a aftermarket alarm or something in the car causing the issue. did you take anything else off the car when you chnaged the plugs? disturbed any wire harnesses etc... if there is no aftermarket alarm in the car then the issue is either with the ignition switch of the safety switch on the transmission. will it crank if you pout the car in neutral and try to crank it? if so the asfety switch is bad. Good luck :)

Answer
Well I did some looking her on my service info and It appears that "SOME" Vibes have theft prevention but ther is nothing in the service manual that tells me what option code on the car let you know if the car has it or not.. Go figure. There are a lot of things on these cars that are left out of the service manuals due to the car being a Toyota and GM gets all the info second had and then they put it into the format that we use on our cars so things get lost in the translation.. The bottom line here is this when your trying to crank the car is there a secuirty lamp that is flashing on and off? You will need a scan tool to look at the engine data to see if indeed the engine computer is seeing a crank siganl or not with out that you dead in the water. There is a 46 step flow chart to follow for a no crank issue. I can't cut and pate it in here the file is too big and like I said with out a scan tool your not going to be able to fix it any way. Sorry...
