Pontiac Repair: no heat antifreeze smell, manifold gaskets, pontiac montana

Question
i have a 2003 Pontiac Montana  and it is giving off no heat and has an anti freeze smell when being driven. i was wondering if it is possibly the heater core and if so how can i repair it?

Answer
Hi Ed:

It may not be a heater core they are rare to go on these vans but they do go. If indeed it is the core it a HUGE job on these vans and not a do it your selfer type of job. The whole dah board and support beam under it have to come off before you acn even see the box that the core is in.. You may have a engine that's leaking coolant and the burning smell from it is comming inot the car. these were noted for lower intake manifold gaskets and head gaskets. again NOT jobs for the do it your selfer sorry to say. I would have the system pressure tested if you see no external leaks then I would suspect the core but not untill then.
Good luck
