Pontiac Repair: 97 Bonneville shutting off., crank shaft position sensor, fuel pressure regulator

Question
Hello, I have a 97 bonneville se. i recently had a new radiator put in, and about a week later my car shut off at a red light and said "check gages" on the dash. I'm not sure what the problem could be. It started back up fine and i haven't driven it since i made it home. what do u think it could be? thank you

Answer
Hi Desy:

The check gauges lamp when on due to the stall condition not a cause of the stall. when it dies did it just cut out like someone turned off the key or did it stip sputter and cough before it dies? if it just cut off it's more then likley an ignition system issue like a bad crank shaft position sensor or an ignition module. if it spit sputtered and coughed before it dies that would indicate an fuel supply or delivery issue and that could be a abd fuel pump or a fuel pressure regulator.. If when it died the idle started to surge it could be an idle control motor that is lazy or dirty. Hope that helps you out. Good luck :)
