Pontiac Repair: IGNITION CYLINDER LOCK, turn signal switch, steering wheel puller

Question
Hello, I have lost the keys to my 1978 Trans Am that I am about to start restoring. Do you have any instruction on how to remove the ignition cylinder lock? Are there any special tools required?

Thank You

Answer
Hi Joe:

you need 2 special tools a steering wheel puller. And a lock plate tool. you can more then likely rent them at one of the big box parts stores. I don't have any instructions it's too old a car. but remove the horn button remove the steering wheel remove the hazzard button off the turn siganl switch remove the lock plate then remove the retainer for the turn siganl stalp to the turn siganl switch remove the turn signal switch remove the key in ignition switch under the turn sigan switch and then you can take out the lock cylinder there is 1 screw that holds the cylinder into the column. Sorry for the vaugue instructions but it's a pretty striaght forward and easy job once you have the 2 tools you need.
