Pontiac Repair: Emergency Brake not holding, bump in the road, pontiac grand am

Question
I have a 2002 pontiac grand am v6 3.2l. Today, while I was driving, I hit a somewhat severe bump in the road and now, my e-brake lever will not catch. Any idea as to what went wrong, how to fix it, and if I can not do it myself, how much it may cost?

Answer
Hi Jason:

there is a pawl on the lever that rides aon a "gear" that palw may not be enguaguing on the gear to holr it on when you pull up on the lever or I guess it's possably that the cable may have come out of the lever assm. when you say "catch" I assume will not hold in the on position rather then it feeling like it's not attached?? it may just need some lube on the pawl like a wd40 or it's possable that when you hit the bump something fell down into the lever and that is preventing it from working. Your going to have to take the center console out of the car and see what happened to the lever. those are the only things I can think of..
Good luck :)
