Pontiac Repair: windshield wiper, windshield wiper, hidden surprises

QUESTION: I have a '01 Blazer. When I started it up other morning the wipers were on & frozen. The passenger side blade broke free before the drivers side. They are now so out of sync that the two collide. The passenger side works fine but the drivers side is way off , so much it will fly off edge of windshield. I reset the blade in place & will work as long as I don't turn wiper speed up. If I do it goes off edge again. What can I do ?

ANSWER: Hey Terry:

the wiper arm is stripped on the wiper trasnmission. you need a new arm and clean all the stripped out aluminum from the bad arm off the tranmsission pivot where is aattaches. good luck :)

QUESTION: Seems simple enough....just wondering how to remove old arm. Have seen special tool but would large screwdriver work ? In other words do you know if this year & model has any hidden surprises for removal ? Thanks for any additional help.

if it's stripped out bad enoug then just remove the nut and it should pull right off if not then a Battery post puller will work to pull the arm off the transmission. Don't pry it off with a screw driver. alos use a wire brush to remove all the stripped out aluminum from the arm off the transmission pivot. Good luck :)
