QUESTION: 01 Pontiac Firebird ignition will not turn my car engine off, the car starts just fine but when its time to turn off it still runs.  So far I have to disconnect the ignition fuse to shut the car off and the battery cable so I don't lose power.  I've replaced the ignition switch and key but it still does the same thing security light is no longer on.  What could be the problem?

does this car have any kind of an aftermarket alarm or remote starter system added to it? When you turn the key to the off poistion do all the accessoies keep running like radio wipers blower motor power windowns dash gauges etc and the engine keeps running??? Or do all of them shut off and the engine keeps running??? This is VERY VERY odd.. what was the root cause of this what happened first? any warning lights on You mentioned the security lamp what about any other ones?

QUESTION: All of the gauges, radio, wipers, windows and the engines stays completely on.  This car came with an alarm system but has been deactivated since 2003, it does not have a remote starter or anything.  Before I would have problems with my car not starting because the key was wearing out and my security light stayed on at all time.  But now with the new key the light has not been on at all, cars starts up good.  No other lights are one at all

well I would say this has a bad ignition switch but you said you replace that. The electrical part not the cylinder.. Is that the part you replaced? If you replaced the electrical part the next guess would be a body control module. That is the power mode master in that car that controls a lot of the things that you mentioned.. I would have this car scanned for codes annd see what codes are stored ther has to be some stored in some of the modules. what ever codes are stored will elad you in a direction to start looking.. A lot of big box car parts stores will scan cars for codes for free see what modules have codes and go from there. there may be somne codes that lead you towards a body module or some place else.
