Pontiac Repair: Engine swap out, chevy engine, engine computer

Question
I want to swap out the engine on my Pontiac 2002 Grand Prix.  I have a 2002, 3100 3.1L engine, and I want to swap it out for the 2002, GTP 3.8L Super Charged engine.  I was wondering if this is possible and are there any compatibility issues that you might be aware of?

Answer
Hi Benjamin:

it will not work. The trasnmission is different so #1 it's not strong enough to handle the bigger engine and the olt pattern is differnt the 3100 engine is a "chevy" engine the 3800 is a "Buick" egine and they will not bolt together. The enegien mounts are different the engine engine computer is different along with the wire harness due to the engines being different. If you looking to go bigger you can swap out a 3400 engine out of a grand am and put it in one of these cars the engine is the same other then the displacement so it will bolt in and fit but you still will have engien computer harness issues.. Your better of looking for a used engine that came out of the same year car and same engine. good luck :)
