Pontiac Repair: Freeze plug, pontiac 6000, auto parts stores

Question
Todd how do you replace the rear freeze plug in a 1989 Pontiac 6000, 2.8 liter engine? Thanks very much for your advice! Ray

Answer
Hi Ray:

if it's in the rear of the block then the transaxle needs to be removed from the car and then the flywheel to gain access to the freeze plug that is leaking. There is a special tool that is needed to drive the plug into the block any of the big box auto parts stores that have tool rental will have what you need. when you replace the plu use a locktite sealer around the edge of the plug to prevent it from leaking again betwwen the plug and the block. Do your self a favor if your in there and doing the job replace all the ones on the back of the block becaause if 1 is leanking the other ones are not far behind. Also do not but the cheap fix ones that are a rubber plug style those are prone to leak! Good luck :)
