Pontiac Repair: Heater, purple wire, test light

Question
Hey Todd i have a 97 grand am and heat stopped working. When i turn the knobs on the dash i can hear a release of air but it wont blow any air. I tried all 4 levels and its the same result for all. Just a release of air but no blowing of anything. Hot or cold. Is this my heater switch because that is what i have been told by some people but not 100% sure.

Thanks
Jeremy

Answer
Hey Jeremy:

I guess what your saying here is you have no air flow? Meaning the blower motor stopped working. You can open the hood with the key on and engine off and wiggle the wiring harness on the nlower motor and see if it starts working. The motor is on the passenger side of the car and is on the firewall. if is starts working there is a loose connection. if not thnen you have to check or power and ground at the motor. The purple wire is the power feed the black is ground. use a 12V test light from ground to the purple it should light bright with the fan on hi with the key on. The black wire to battery (+) should light bright as well that doesn't matter fan on or off. if both test good the blower motor is what's bad. Good luck :)
