Pontiac Repair: question about car, pontiac grand am, starter motor

I'm trying to change the oil on my 2002 pontiac grand am se1 for the first time and im not sure how much oil im supposed to use or where the filter is located. Can you tell me?

Hi Sara:

Good for you doing this your self! what engine is in this 6 or 4 cylinder? they both take 5 qts of oil. The 4 cyinder engine has a cap on the side of the engine "black plastic" and the filter is under that the cap is on the drivers side of the car towards the front of the car by the radaitor. the 6 cylinder engine you access it from under the car it's right near the starter motor forward facing the radiator.
