Pontiac Repair: pont transport 98 3.4, cam bearings, cam drive


Question
my van is not oiling i replaced oil pump with high volume.
but it is still tapping heavy. removed filter no oil exiting.
removed front valve cover. three rocker arms not moving and loose.
pulled one didnt appear bent.  Possible cam? Does cam drive oil pump? Question may be a little heavy but appreciate any help.

Hi There:
To answer your  question Yes the camshaft drives the oil pump in a round about way. The camshaft snapped in half and it's not driving the oil pump. It more then likely bent some vlaves as well if the valves were held in the right position the piston will hit them. If the rocker arems are not movine on all the cylinders that's what happened. And if the cam broke chances are it seized in the cam bearings in the engine block and if that is the case The cam beraring more then likley spun in the block which means it's time for a new engine and with almost 200,000 on the van don't bother trying to fix this engine it's seen better days.. Cut you losses now either find a used engine with low miles on it or sell the van as in and find something newer.. Good luck :)
