Nissan Repair: transmission service, nissan maxima, transmission service

Question
I was looking to have my 95 Nissan Maxima transmission serviced.  I called around and asked about pricing.  I was told by some places that there was no screen in the tranny, and that only the fluid needs to be flushed?  Is this true, or does this just apply to the 94 and earlier?

Answer
Tyrone,

There is a wire screen that does not have to be changed to perform a fluid flush.  If the car is this old I would not recommend changing it since it could cause the transmission to fail.  I would just leave it alone until it finally fails.  I have seen transmissions with this many years fail soon after a fluid change.  That is, unless the fluid has been changed regularly.  Your choice here and just my advice.
