Pontiac Repair: 3.8 Engine Block Drain Plug, pipe dope, block drain

Question
I have a 2002 Grand Prix 3.8 Series II engine.  I can't locate a coolant drain plug in the block.  Does it have one?  If not, what's the best way to thoroughly flush the coolant from the block.

Answer
Hi Colin:

it doesn't have drain plugs you have to remove the knock sensors from the block they are threaded into the water jackets there is one on each side of the block and they have a single wire connector on them and the wire is dark blue in color. if you do remove them whe  you put them back in be sure to not overtighten them it will damage the sensor and cause a service engine soon lamp to come on. use a liquid pipe dope on the threads when you put them back in. You can also try one of those back flush kits on the heater hose and remove the dain plug in the radiator and flush it out that way just make sure that you put the antifreeze back in not mixed with water because the block will still be full of water and the concentration of antifreeze to water will not be right if you pre mix it 50/50 before you add it to the engine. here is a quick trick too if you do flush it but decide to not drain the block leave the flusher kit open and add the antifreeze to the radiator slowly and it will push the water up and out of the block antifreeze is heavier then water so it will lay in the block and force the water up and out your flush kit adaptor. Good luck :)
