Pontiac Repair: 2001 Aztex lifter noise, lucas oil treatment, marvel mystery oil

Question
I had my oil changed and the next day I noticed a tapping noise from the motor. I have a good understanding of cars so I let my car warm up and still the tap was there. I then rechecked the oil level and it was full. I also checked to make sure my head was not loose or leaking, it and the seal was all good. I contacted the place my oil was done at, they say they are not to blame. I could care less about that. I was told to drain a Qt. of oil out then add a Qt of Lucas Oil treatment. Did it but after 100 miles still the tapping....anything else I can try????
                                              Thanks

Answer
Hi christy:

If the oil level was full and they put a good quality oil in the car they are not to blame at all. It depends on the type of noise the engine is making. A tapping noise doesn't necessarily mean a lifter noise it can be deeper in the engine line a connecting rod noise. Does the noise sound like it going 1/2 the speed of the engine? If so it's valve train related and it could be a lifter or a rocker arm. if it sounds like it's at engine speed it's lower in the engine And NOT good! does it run okay? has nay major engine work been doen to this recently that some dirt may have gotten into the engine and caused some damage? If it's a lifter type noise there is another product you can try it's called marvel mystery oil. If you have a sticking lifter or collaped lifter this stuff will work wounders. short of that it's going to have to come apart to start looking for the source of the noise It's not going to get any better only worse. Good luck :)
