Pontiac Repair: 87 fiero coil pack, crank sensor, coil pack

Question
how do you test a coil pack and the pickup sensor

Answer
Hi Paul:

I will assume this is a 4 cylinder? In that case you have to remove the coil's and the ignition module assembly and once you get it off the engein and the crank sensor is seperated from the module the sensor should have between say 800-1400 Ohms resistance much more or much less the sensor is bad. The coils should have between 5,000-7,000 ohms restance across the towers where the plug wires attach and the primary side of the coil where it sits on the module pins should not have much more than 1 ohm. Good luck :)
