Pontiac Repair: 02 grand prix main bearings, 3800 engine, main bearings

Helloi, i need to know if I can pull just the engine in my 02 grand prix se. i belive a main or rod bearing is knocking and need to replace them, but i dont want to mess with the trans axle and tranny. Also i am used to working on older cars, so is excluding all the senors is this pretty similar to any other bearing fix?

Yes you can just pull the engine out without the transmission. It will come out the top and leave the trasnmission attached to the frame. When you get the engine out It it pretty much the same as an older car. What engine is in this 3100 or a 3800 engine? If it's a 3800 engine replace the front timing cover and oil pump gears. it's it's a 3100 replace the oil pump assembly. but it's pretty much the same thing. Good luck :)
