Pontiac Repair: 1996 Pontiac Trans Am, sway bar bushings, bad wheel bearing

Question
QUESTION: I have 96 T/A with only 39000 Miles and the car makes a bad sound in the rear end when turning a sharp corner, not grinding but more of a deep squeeking/rubbing sound.  I do not know if it is a bad wheel bearing or the rear end.  Do you have any experience with these and what this could be from?
Best regards,
Kevin Ealahan

ANSWER: i would check the rear brakes make sure they are not dragging and the bushings on the rear susension, if all looks good there it could be something in the rear axle ie; side bearing.

QUESTION: Tim,
Could this have anything to do with the sway bar bushings?  I believe they need to be replaced with a greasable type as they seem to be making noise when I crest hills.  Also, how would I check to see if the brakes are dragging?
Thanks,
Kevin Ealahan

Answer
i have never heard of greasable bushings but you could just apply some lube to the ones that are on it now to see if the noise goes away, they are suspect to making noise.  As for the rear brakes, try jacking up the rear axle and with the car in nuetral, see if the wheels spin freely, if the brakes are dragging you will know as one of the wheels will not want to turn
