Pontiac Repair: 98 pontiac grandprix se 3.8 timing, pontiac grandprix, compression gauge

1 cyclinder is TDC how do i know if the timing chain is TDC on the chains with the cover still on is there another marker i should be looking for?

there is no wat to tell if it's at TDC there are no marks on the balancer. You could be at TDC on compression or on Exhaust. The best way to tell is screw in compression gauge hose to the cylinder your looking for TDC on and crank the car over when you feel compression out the hose it's on the compression stroke if you don't feel it it's on the exhaust stroke.
