Pontiac Repair: 2001 pontaic montana, fuse box, purple wire

Question
I have been having problems starting the vehicle, I had the starter tested it fired fine twice on the third try it made a metal to metal grinding noise. I replaced the starter and now the van will not even turn over. It did twice now all it does is click. I've checked all the connections, voltage, battery, and have no clue what the problem could be. My neighbor said it could be the relay in the fuse box under the hood. Please help.

Answer
Hi there:

well It can be a relay but It's not in the fuse box. it on the side of the radiator on the right side of the engine compartment. What you need to do is make sure your getting a "crank" signal at the starter motor. have someone crank the the van over while you check to see if there is battery volatge on the purple wire at the starter motor. if ther is battery volatge and it will not crank the new starter you got is bad. if you do not have power at the solenoid then you need to check to see if you have a crank request grouind into the relay. it will be an orange black wire should have battery volatge the red wire should have battery volatge as well and the yellow/black wire is the ground control from the engine computer. If you have all that and still no volatge out of the relay the relay is bad. Good luck :)
