Pontiac Repair: 1996 Pontiac Sunfire Wont Start, pontiac sunfire, emergency flashers

Question
My 1996 Pontiac Sunfire sat for awhile.  When I attempted to start it the battery was too low.  The steering wheel locked and the brakes were "rock hard".  I charged the battery while it was still connected in the car. I attempted to put the key in the ignition to unlock the steering wheel.  The key wouldn't go all the way in the ignition nor would the ignition turn.  I politely forced it.  The steering wheel unlocked and the ignition turned.  The car still would not start and the brakes remained "rock hard".  There was no sound that indicated that the car wanted to turn over.  When I removed the key there was a "clicking sound" coming from behind the dashboard which sounded like the turn signal was on.  It was not.  I disconnected the battery and removed it from the car, charged it, and put it back in.  The car still doesn't start and makes absolutely NO sound when I turn the ignition.  The ONLY things that work on the car are the following:  dome light, parking lights, head lights, and emergency flashers.  This baby has served me well.  It has 273,00 miles on it.  Is it time for a proper burial.  Prior to its sickness, believe it or not I was getting thirty something miles to the gallon!

Answer
Hi scott:

well it sound like you have a power or ground issue here if none of the accy. power comes on with the key in the run or crank postions. you could have a fuseable link that burned up at the starter or a ground wire connection issue eithere at the engine block or under the battery tray. It's one or the other as to what the issue is but the problem is finding out where. You could alos have a bad ignition switch if you don't find anything where I mentions here then take a look to see if you have power going into the ignition switch. I belive there are 2 battery power feeds into that switch there should be red wires. if you hva epower in but not out of the swithc that is the issue. Good luck :)
