Question
1995 pontiac Bonneville. Just finished replacing head gaskets. Drove vehicle into garage running bad of course. Finished and went to start and won't even turn over. Got to looking and found that flywheel bolts broke, Do you know if there is a problem with these breaking, and do you know a way to put back in with out removing tranny. I have never heard of this before. thanks alot

Answer
Hey Jamie:

Wow that's a weird one but Here is what I think happened. The engine was running rough because it was burning coolant. Your coolant loss issue may not have been head gaskets but rather a bad upper intake manifold plenum "the plastic part" The pressure in the cooling system pushed the coolant into one or more of the cylinders and when you tried to crank the car over the engine hydrolocked up and sheeared off the flywheel bolts. I find it really stange that it broke them all off but that is the only logical explanation I have for this. I'm surprised it didn't break the starter off the engine block or strip out the flywheel first.  It's just a hunch. there is no way to tnage the flywheel bolts with out removing the transmissiion on a car. Your going to have to use an easy out or bolt extractor to get the broken bolts out of the crankshaft anyways.
Good luck :)
