Pontiac Repair: 1999 pontiac sunfire INSPECTION, pontiac sunfire, jack rabit

Question
Have a 1999 Sunfire.  It sat for about 1 year. The battery was gone so i bought a new one. Runs good but no ac.  I tried to get it inspected with about 15 to 20 miles driven on the new battery.  It did not pass. It was not ready on evap, catalyst, and o2 sensoer with no codes showing.  They said to drive about 50 more miles around town and highway so i did.  Took it back with about 90 miles driven on it now and still same thing. HELP please.

Answer
Hi Nick:

there is nothing wrong with the car if no service engine soon lamp has come on.. It's just a matter of driving the car long enough under the right conditions to let the engine computer run all it's self tests. the one hard test to have run is the EVAp system if there is too much fule or not enough fuel in the ga tank that test will not run idealy if it has about 1/2 a tank of fule it will ruin that test.. but as a rule it takes about 200 miles of mixed loop driving to let all the tests to run. you can try this from a cold start drive it for a few miles between 30-45 mph and then at highway speed for a few miles with a steady spped not jack rabit starts or stops and it should run the rest of the tests.. good luck :)
