Pontiac Repair: pontiac vibe hood release cable, metal coat hanger, pontiac vibe

I can't open my hood. How do I open my hood on my 03 pontiac vibe? the cable latch is very loose when I pull it inside the car. It feels like the cable is either broken or has come loose somewhere, it is still attached to the lever inside the car. Thank you for any help.

Hey Walt:

if your lucky just the cable broke off the handle inside the car. If this is the case you may be able to grab onto the end of the cable that broke off the handle and pull on it with a pair of pliers and it will open. If the cable broke altoghter your going to have a problem. There is no real way to open the hood easily.. On some of the cars you can look into thween the hood and the grill and see the hood latch it's self. I can't say that I ever tried to open a VIBE hood through that gap between the hood and grill. I'm not even sure if you can see the latch on that car but if you can look where the cable attaches to the latch. If you can see that then you need a long pick or hook or even a metal coat hanger and pull on the lever that the cable attaches to. pull it towards the drivers side of the car and it should open the hood. the key is being able to see what your trying to do.. This is acatully a job for a collision shop. I'm not a body guy so my instructiuons are a bit vague I'm sorry. Good luck :0
