Pontiac Repair: Stalling, 3.8l engine misfire

Question
Hi Todd, I have a 2000 Monte Carlo SS, 3.8L.  I recently had the plugs and wires changed, now the car stalls and bucks under acceleration.  Stalling occurs only after the engine reaches operating temp.  It will idle until then.  When I try to restart the car it fires right up but then stalls again.  While driving it bucks under light acceleration and stalls when I take my foot of the gas pedal.  No codes where present when I hooked up my OBD scanner.  I thought maybe it was the IAC so I replaced it but I still have the same problem. I double check with the local parts store to make sure I had the right plugs and wires. I would appreciate any suggestions.  Thanks, Mike

Answer
Hey Mike:

this problem cropped up after you changed the wires and plugs or were you chasing this problem already? If it cropped up after then I would suspect a bad set of plug wires OR the wires are routed too close to the engine control module harness at the back of the engine by the fire wall. there is a harness that goes down to the transmission and oxygen sensor and iff the plug wires are bad or are to close to that harness it will cause all kind of wierd issues.. Back to the parts you installed. Use ONLY AC delco spark plugs in this engine and I highly recomend AC Delco wires as well. if you got a "cheap" set of wires it will cause all kinds of wierd things to happen. If you go with aftermarket wires buy a GOOD set from NAPA or Carquest.
Now if this issue was there before these parts were changed then I would look at possably a bad crank postion sensor or possably a leaking fuel pressure regulator. with the engine running pull the vacuum hose off the regulator and let it run for a minute or so and see if you get raw fuel out of the regulator vacuum port if so you found the problem.. Good luck :0
