Pontiac Repair: 1992 PONTIAC BONNEVILLE, pontiac bonneville, move car

Bonneville want start, it is an automatic and the shifter on the colum free spins with the key on turn the key off it want move. Car says its in park but its stuck in N and want start any sugg.  ??????

well #1 if it's stuck in neutral it should still start. the car should start in neutral or park. My guess is the sifter cable is eiither snapped ot it came off at one end either on the transmission ot at the shiter on the column. with out seeing it It's hard to say for sure what's up here but it has to be one or the other and probably stuck in another gear other than park or neutral?
