will a 2.2 from a 96 sunfire work in a 97 sunfire? every salvage yard i called said 96 and 97 are the same.i bought a 96 then noticed the crank sensors are different.will it work?

If the sensors look different in terms of the electrical connector then they are different. As far as what fits what I can't help you out there. But I ssem to remeber that 1997 was on an island by it's self maning I think that year was differnt for some reason it was the last year of that configuration before 1998 and the engie was completly differnt. I don't want to say for sure that it will not work but if it work different then it it different. Try calling this # 1-800-gm parts. That is a place called WILBERTS it's a auto recycler here in NY that we get used parts from and they deal strictly with GM parts and see if they can help you out. You may even try a google search for them. Good luck :)
