Pontiac Repair: 2001 Pontiac Grand Am, fuel pressure gauge, pontiac grand am

Question
My car would not start we replaced the fuel pump and the filter, but it still will not start.  You can hear the pump and if you disconnect the fuel filter fuel will come out for a bit.   We checked all the fuses.

Answer
Hi Alana:

Does the car start then die right away? If so it's more then likely a factory security system failure. when this happens does the security lamp start flashing on the dash board? If so that for sure is the problem here. Or does the car just plain not start at all? in order for the engien to run it needs fuel and spark. You have fuel from the pump but mya not have to going into the engine. you need to see what the fuel pressure is at the engine this engine needs about 45 PSI to run and it needs spark. You can get a cheap aprk checker at the parts store and see if indeed you have that. You need a fuel pressure gauge to check the pressure at the engine. That is where I would start looking.. Good luck :)
