Pontiac Repair: radio, ac delco, back lighting

Question
i have a 2000 grand am 2.4L. my factory installed radiowith cd player works fine except the display is out.couldthis be in the dimming system.all other dashboard lightswork fine.

Answer
Hi Bill:

Nope the issue is inside the radio. if all the othere back lighting works okay and the radio is the only thing out It's in the radio. It was pretty common for that style radio to do that. We do not fix them. At the dealership we just install remanufactured radios we get from a AC Delco reman facility. The cost of a reman radio is usually about $280.00. You may be able to find one at a junk yard or on E-bay cheap but it has to be the EXACT same part # that series of radio fit multiple car lines and they all look the same but they are different on the inside and will not work. Depending on the car options the radio may have to be calibaterd to match the options in the car that has to be done at a dealership or AC delco repair shop. Again it depends on what options the car has it may not need it..

Good luck :)
