Pontiac Repair: 1998 Firebird Wiper Linkage, rubber grommets, improper installation

Question
The left hand wiper transmission went out so I replaced it and reassembled it. It worked for a little while then stopped. I noticed the rubber grommets that hold the linkage rods to the transmissions and motor are worn and will not hold very tight and just the least amount of pressure they will pop off. Is there a trick to seat these or a special tool I need. Would like some advice before I purchase a new one then damage it for improper installation. Thank You for any advice.

Answer
Hi Ben:

There is a special tool to attach and un attach the linkage pieces but I just use a pair of pliers to squeeze the liankage piecec together. I never have an issue doing it that way. Not quite sure why you had an issue. Did you buy an aftermarket piece or factory part? if it's aftermarket that may be the issue the parts just don't fit together properly and fall apart.
