Pontiac Repair: tilt steering column, steering wheel puller, gm car

Question
I have a 73 trans am that has original tilt, rare, but the column is extremely loose, the inside parts, I remember seeing a rebuild kit for these columns but have been unable to locate who sells them. Even Ames doesn't have them. Any suggestions or help, I really want to keep the original column. Thanks

Answer
Hi Steve:

I don't know if this actaully is going to need any parts at all. usually just the bolts that hold the tilt machanism in the lower bowl of the column just loosen up. You just need to dissasembly the column down to the tilt mechanism and tight tighten the bolts up and it should be okay. You just need a few special tools like a lock plate tool/steering wheel puller and tilt pin remover. In the future you may try a company called Year One I belive they have parts for old "F" body cars. I know they have Chevelle and Monte carlo parts and a lot of the parts on that vintage GM car are interchangeable from one model to the next.
