Pontiac Repair: No Fire after Heat, crank shaft position sensor, crank sensor

Question
Hello.  I have a 1988 Pontiac Grand Prix LE, with a 2.8L V6.  I think I have tried everything, so here goes.  The car starts just fine and after it has warmed up for about 3 or 4 minutes, it dies with no spark.  About 6 months ago, the fuel pump went bad, so I had the pump and filter replaced.  I had the auto parts store test the alternator and battery both and they are fine.  I replaced the coils and distribution module and this didn't fix the problem.  I checked the resistance across each new coil and module and those measure within their tolerance.  I have cleaned all of my connections to ground well and made sure they were tight and also my cables are clean and don't have any signs of corrosion.  All of my fuses are good too.  Scratching my head once again, I believe that the electronic control module may be the culprit.  Any help would be much appreciated.

Answer
Hi Darren:

I would check the crank shaft position sensor out. With the negine cold that sensor should have between 800 and say 1200 Ohms. when the car dies check it again. If it's skewd way high or low on resitance you found the problem. The engine copntrol module doesn't control the spark per say it just controls the spark timing. The spark is triggered by the ignition module and the crank sensor. is this the same problem you had back 6 months and has been on going ago or a different one? If you bought an aftermaket module and it's a differnt problem then before I would think that a "cheap knock off" module my be to blame.. Good luck :)
