Pontiac Repair: Car wont start, starter solenoid, purple wire

Question
98 grand am se 3.1 V6. All lights and radio will come on/play but car will not start. Not the battery being that everything else works. Turn the switch and it does absolutely nothing (besides all the panel lights come on). Does nothing with a power jumper either. Thanks

Answer
Hi Michael:

The starter doesn't even click when you crank the car over?? If that's the case you need to check for "crank" voltage at the starter solenoid. have a helper crank the car while you check for battery voltage at the purple wire at the starter. if you have voltage and no crank the starter assembly is bad. If you don't have it then you have to trace it back from the starter into the engine compartment and into the car. This car had a recall on it for ignition switch issues that could be it as well if the recall was never done on it. Good luck :)
